Y U R A  SJ  O H


           Acclaimed by the critics to have a very strong technique and beautifully powerful tone, Violinist Yura Oh has performed extensively as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician at major venues like Alice Tully Hall, Peter Jay Sharp Theater, David Geffen Hall and Carnegie Hall. She has also performed throughout the US, Asia and Europe. Yura studied with Itzhak Perlman and Catherine Cho from 2004-2014  where she received full scholarship as a Juilliard student.  She was also a receipient of the Arnold R Deutsch/ Dorothy Starling scholarship at The Juilliard School with Donald Weilerstein and David Chan while completing her Master’s Degree in Music. Recently, she completed a professional studies diploma for Orchestral Performance at the Manhattan School of Music with Glenn Dicterow and Lisa Kim from the New York Philharmonic. Her latest achievements include playing as a concertmaster under the baton of Leonard Slatkin of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.  

           She is a prize winner for many competitions in Korea, including the Korea and Germany Association Competition. In United States, she won the concerto competition at the Juilliard School where she performed with the Juilliard Orchestra at Peter Jay Sharp Theatre under the baton of Maestro Ki Sun Sung. Other awards include the LISMA Foundation Competition and the New Jersey Philharmonic Competition. Also an avid chamber musician, she has worked with many great artists and mentors like Merry Peckham, David Finckel, Paul Neubauer, Lara Lev and Lewis Kaplan. She is also a member of the New York Trio where the members share the goal of promoting the great composers and music of our time, while also celebrating the more traditional chamber music repertoire of the past.  

           As a young artist, Yura has participated in master classes with Itzhak Perlman, Glen Dicterow, Guillaume Sutre, and with Georgy Pauk in recent years. She has also been a part of the Perlman Music Program for five years, Great Mountains Music Festival in Korea, the Fontainebleau Music School in France and lastly, the Music Academy of the West in the summer of 2015  As an avid supporter of the music today, she was invited to perform in the Focus! Festival at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre. In the same year, she had a recital in the University Club of Manhattan for the Perlman Music Program and at the WMP hall for Strad for Lunch series. In 2014, she was selected to participate in New York String Orchestra Seminar under the baton of Jamie Laredo at the Carnegie Hall. In 2015, she was a featured artist to perform at Symphony Space in Manhattan for the Judith Zaimont's 70th year celebration concert where she performed the Zaimont's Piano Trio No.2 "Zones" with Professor Polk from the Manhattan School of Music.
          Outside of stage, she enjoys teaching younger generation of musicians and she currently holds a position as a faculty member at NYSMA and Arete Music Academy.
